SCA Functional Specification

Bluetooth (BT-PAN) Network Interface

Last updated: 04-Dec-2024

SCA application is enhanced to support connectivity with Mobile POS or Tablet using Bluetooth network interface (BT-PAN). With this mode of connection, the device should communicate with the Host.
In Tablet (POS), Bluetooth tethering will be enabled, once the POS and SCA paired with Bluetooth along with Primary/Secondary/Tertiary network interface is set as value BT-PAN in SCA, then it will activate the Bluetooth interface and will use this interface for further communication.

Primary, secondary and tertiary interface device name parameter is updated with the new value BT-PAN. To communicate with Host using Bluetooth, PRIMINTERFACEDEVICENAME/SECINTERFACEDEVICENAME/TERINTERFACEDEVICENAME parameter should be set to BT_PAN and the respective interface type should be set as LAN. If the interface device name is set to BT_PAN value, then the following parameters should be set as below:

  • Bluetooth (BT-PAN) Network Interface
  • BTPAIRMODE parameter should be enabled.
  • IDLEQRINFO parameter value should not be set as 0.
  • IDLEQRTO parameter minimum value should be set as 60.

To configure Bluetooth (BT-PAN), following are the steps:

  1. Press Enter + 5, when the device is idle scree.
  2. Displays QR with screen “Bluetooth Pairing”, select Pair, when device prompts for PIN.
  3. Display Pairing Success screen after success. In case of Failure, the device will display Bluetooth Communication Failed and will be back to Idle screen.
  4. The device will start Bluetooth interface, provided Primary/Secondary/Tertiary interface is set to BT-PAN.
  5. Bluetooth Interface will be activated and will perform Device and Encryption Registration. Preamble steps will be completed. In case of failure during activation or registration, the device will display Error screen with “BT-LAN Interface setup Failed” and “Failure screen”, then will return to Idle screen.
  6. Displays IP from BT-PAN interface and return to Idle screen.

There are few limitations of BT LAN with WINDOWS and IOS POS.

If POS is Windows:

  • BT LAN interface will not happen if the MOBILE HOTSPOT sharing via BLUETOOTH is not turned on at the POS.
  • After successfully activating the BT LAN interface, if the terminal goes out of range and comes back within the range, the BT LAN interface will pick up automatically, but the BT LAN IP is going to change, the customer needs to navigate to CCP to know the BT LAN IP address.
  • After every Reboot, the terminal will not pick up the BT LAN interface automatically, since the terminal restarts its Bluetooth during reboot. Once the POS disconnects from the terminal Bluetooth connectivity, it is automatically going to turn down its Mobile hotspot. Due to this, the terminal will not auto-connect to the BT LAN. The customer needs to remove the device from the POS Bluetooth list and should trigger BT pairing from the terminal by entering the 5+enter button from the IDLE screen, parallelly should scan for the device from the POS end and connect to the terminal by selecting the appropriate Bluetooth name.
  • Every time the terminal disconnects from the BT POS, the customer needs to remove the device from the POS Bluetooth device list and pair it by initiating the BT PAN interface by clicking the 5+enter button from the terminal IDLE followed by scanning for Bluetooth devices from the POS end.

If POS is IOS:

  • Both the BLUETOOTH and the MOBILE HOTSPOT with MAXIMUM COMPATIBILITY should be ON at the IOS POS.
  • If the terminal is already paired with the IOS POS and if needed to again connect back to the same POS, click the 5+ENTER button from the IDLE screen of the terminal. On the POS end, just navigate to Bluetooth, select the already paired device name, the POS & terminal will both prompt pairing code, select YES on both end.
  • If the POS restarts, the MAXIMUM COMPATIBILITY under MOBILE HOTSPOT will turn off, the customer needs to enable it. otherwise BT interface won’t start automatically.
